What is Acupuncture?
Acupuncture is a primary health care modality that the Chinese
have practiced for over 2500 years. It is becoming one of the newest
primary health care provisions in this country. It is much more than
just inserting tiny thread like needles along meridian lines of the
body, Acupuncture's complex system of diagnostic corollaries takes
into consideration the patient as a whole. It's primary purpose is
not the treatment of isolated symptoms but correcting an imbalance
at the cause and preventing further development of ill health. Acupuncture
is practiced based on discerning a "pattern of disharmony" and treating
it appropriately There are numerous modalities that can be utilized
in treatment-certain physical therapies, herbal medicine, moxabustion
and nutrition. The practice of Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese
Medicine is not limited to symptom relief, it encompasses the larger
picture of improving and increase both quality of your life and your
ability to function.

How it works.
The practice of Acupuncture uses natural laws and energetics
along with stimulation from needles and pressure to "specific points"
on the body. These points follow definite linear continuums or meridians
that cross the body. As long as energy flows freely through these
meridians health is experienced. When a blockage of energy or deficiency
or excess of the energy occurs illness and pain result. With application
and stimulation of needles along the meridians at appropriate acupuncture
points the normal flow of energy can be restored and health reestablished.

What to Expect With Acupuncture?
On your first visit a great amount of information is gathered
by your Acupuncturist. Vital clues to an overall pattern of health
or disease are derived from the information you give. The Acupuncturist
will also feel the subtle variations in the pulse in the wrist to
obtain information of how the body is functioning. All of this information
is vital to discern particular health patterns for you and determine
which specific points would be appropriate.

What Does it Feel Like?
Most people are surprised to learn that Acupuncture needles are very
thin and solid. They are not like the hypodermic needles which are
big and hallow. The needles are inserted usually only a millimeter
in depth. After the needle is inserted you may feel nothing or sometimes
a vague numbness, "heaviness" or slight tingling. The treatment is
still effective whether these things are felt or not. Many experience
a euphoric feeling after receiving a treatment and others a deep sense
of peace and well being.

How Many Treatments are Necessary?
Acupuncture is for all ages and because each person is unique, treatment
plans vary accordingly. No two conditions or people respond the same.
Length of treatment depends on the type, severity and duration of
the condition, and the physical state at the time of treatment. Frequent
evaluations are done during the course of treatment, weather the case
is short or lengthy, to evaluate your progress and overall response
to treatment. To increase the effect of treatment and get the best
therapeutic results, it is important to follow the recommendations
and treatment plan carefully. It is also necessary to complete the
entire course of treatment to ensure the restoration of health.
